Missing project files / Where are projects stored?

On the Pro plan, all Kite files are stored as local files on your computer, they are never stored in the cloud.

(The Team plan has optional cloud project sharing).

The means, as with all other programs that store local files, you can lose your projects if you:

  • Manually delete the files
  • Use an automated cleanup program to free up space on your computer. These programs may delete the large parts of your projects files, such as the screen recordings, leaving behind corrupt projects with missing pieces
  • Switch to a new computer (see the project migration guide)

All project files are stored in the Kite projects folder on your Mac.

Kite never deletes them unless you explicitly click delete project and then confirm that you want to delete the project.

Finding your Kite project files

You can find your Kite projects by clicking the Mac menu bar > Kite > Show projects in Finder

See the project migration guide if you need to move these files to a new computer.
