Adding a blur

You can add blurs to hide sensitive or distracting info in your screen recordings.

First, you need a scene, that has a media file in it (a kite screen recording or imported image/video file).

Add a blur by clicking the "+ Blur" button in the scene timeline:

You can then move and resize the blurred area in the viewer:

Blurs are not pinned to the content inside a recording. If your recording has scrolls or layout shifts, content that was under a blur may be revealed. Double check your exports.

The blur algorithm is meant to be secure. Before blurring, each blurred area is reduced to a 5 x 4 grid of colors, making it extremely difficult to reverse.However, because content and privacy laws vary, it's up to you to determine if this is secure enough for your use case.

Adding blurs automatically with AI

If you have lots of areas to blur, you can choose to use AI to speed up the process.

Click the "detect areas to blur" button, and include an optional prompt, such as "blur all emails," or "blur all chrome tabs."

Wait a few seconds, and you'll get back a whole bunch of blurred regions, labeled and grouped for convenience:

You can then mouse over any area in the list to preview it alone in the viewer. Click the delete button if you don't want to keep it, or adjust the bounding box if you need to fine tune it.

Don't trust the AI to perfectly conceal all info on the first try. Double-check your final exports to make sure they do not contain any sensitive information.

AI detection requires uploading the current frame of the screen recording to the cloud for processing. It's up to you to determine if that's allowable for your company and use case.
